This archive preserves entries 1–15 of the July–August 2025 selection. It contains fourteen source-based recommendations and one withdrawn buying recommendation: entry 14, Heroine Anthem II, whose original description mixed different games. Across all four volumes the historical numbering contains 50 entries, but only 49 retain recommendations; it is not a promise of 50 currently verified excellent games. Some inclusions, such as TUNIC and Spiritfarer, are established successes rather than genuinely obscure releases. “Hidden gem” here means a possible discovery outside your usual rotation, not a claim about sales.
This edited English edition draws on the Spanish selection and the linked publisher store descriptions. It is recommendation analysis, not a record of hands-on testing. Old review totals and first-person anecdotes are not carried over. Edition identities were checked on October 7, 2026; prices and hardware compatibility should be checked on the store before buying.
1. Phoenotopia: Awakening
A side-scrolling action-adventure combining towns, dungeons, puzzles, and a quest to rescue your family. Choose it if talking to townsfolk and working out environmental obstacles matter as much as fighting. Its mix of exploration and combat is less suitable if you want a short sequence of isolated action stages. Publisher’s Steam page.
2. TUNIC
An isometric adventure starring a small fox, built around discovering a mysterious world rather than receiving every answer in advance. It is a strong fit for players who enjoy interpreting clues and finding their own route. Those who need explicit directions may prefer a more guided adventure. Avoid puzzle walkthroughs initially if discovery is the reason you chose it. Steam page.
3. Cave Story+
Running, jumping, shooting, and exploration make this a useful bridge between classic action-platformers and narrative adventures. Choose it for the combination of weapon-based action and a story unfolding through the places you visit. Retro presentation is deliberate; this is not a modern cinematic showcase. The link is to the paid Cave Story+ edition, not the original freeware release. Steam page.
4. FEZ
FEZ changes a three-dimensional structure into four different two-dimensional views. Rotating your perspective is therefore a puzzle tool, not just a camera effect. Pick it if you enjoy spatial reasoning and noticing details; skip it if you mainly want combat. Its more cryptic discoveries reward keeping your own notes rather than expecting a conventional quest checklist. Steam page.
5. ASTLIBRA Revision
A 2D action RPG about confronting time and fate, with character upgrades and demanding boss encounters. It makes sense for players who want a substantial progression arc alongside side-view fighting. It is a less direct choice for someone who wants only a compact platformer: building up abilities is part of the appeal, not a distraction from it. Steam page.
6. HEARTBEAT
A monster-filled RPG adventure with fishing, card collecting, creature training, and secrets alongside its journey. Choose it if the side activities and strange creature cast sound more attractive than realistic combat. It belongs in the story-and-systems branch of this list, not the reflex-platforming branch; readers looking for immediate action should start with ICEY instead. Steam page.
7. Nine-Tailed Okitsune Tale
The Spanish article called this “Crónica del zorro eterno”; the linked game is Nine-Tailed Okitsune Tale. Kohaku transforms into different forms to solve disturbances in the capital. The developer explicitly positions it as an action RPG for beginners who value character dialogue and presentation over high difficulty. Try the store demo if you are unsure about its pace. Steam page and demo.
8. NAIRI: Tower of Shirin
A hand-drawn adventure mixing visual-novel storytelling with point-and-click puzzles. Its oasis city, item combinations, and puzzle-dungeons make it a better fit for readers who like investigating and talking than those who want fast combat. The cute presentation should not be mistaken for a promise that every puzzle is trivial. Steam page.
9. Spiritfarer: Farewell Edition
As ferrymaster to the deceased, you build a boat, care for spirit passengers, and eventually say goodbye to them. The management loop gives relationships a practical role, making it appealing if routine tasks help you connect with characters. The subject is death and loss: a cozy visual style does not make it emotionally neutral. Farewell Edition includes the base game and its three major content updates. Steam page.
10. A Short Hike
Hike, climb, and glide toward Hawk Peak’s summit. This is the clearest pick in this volume for a small exploration goal rather than a long RPG investment: the landscape itself is the attraction. Choose it when you want wandering and optional discoveries, not a demanding combat campaign or an endless progression system. Steam page.
11. Songbird Symphony
A musical platform adventure following Birb’s search for his origins. Rhythm-action boss battles distinguish it from a conventional jump-and-attack platformer, so liking its pixel art is only half the decision: you should also enjoy timing inputs to music. Players who dislike rhythm challenges should look at A Short Hike for a bird-led adventure with a different emphasis. Steam page.
12. Endling — Extinction is Forever
You play the last mother fox caring for her cubs in a world being destroyed. Protecting and teaching the family gives its environmental theme a concrete survival perspective. It is a relevant pick for players interested in vulnerability and consequence, but not an uncomplicated animal comfort game. Check the subject matter before choosing it for younger players. Steam page.
13. ICEY
ICEY pairs 2D combat with a narrator who keeps directing your actions. The interesting decision is whether to follow that guidance or question it, making the game useful for players curious about fourth-wall storytelling without giving up action. If you only want a pure fighting challenge, the meta layer may feel like an interruption. Steam page.
14. Heroine Anthem II: The Angel of Sarem — historical entry, not a current buying recommendation
The Spanish source named this older game but attached the description and 2022 release information of Heroine Anthem Zero 2, then listed Zero 2 again at number 15. The PCGamingWiki series catalog distinguishes Heroine Anthem II from Zero and Zero 2; it is a community identity reference, not proof of current storefront availability.
The original number is preserved to make the correction visible, but its mismatched mechanics, date, and cheat advice are withdrawn. We cannot substantiate a current English-language purchase route or a reliable gameplay recommendation for this older entry from the supplied material. Do not buy Zero 2 thinking it is the same game. For a separately verified introduction to the franchise, Heroine Anthem Zero — Sacrifice is a different side-scrolling action RPG, described by its publisher as the first episode rather than a complete saga.
15. Heroine Anthem Zero 2: Scalescars Oath
Zero 2 is a separate action RPG emphasizing a lengthy fantasy narrative and its relationship between gods and humans. It suits players who want story and combat systems together, rather than a minimal action game. Do not confuse it with the older Heroine Anthem II or buy it expecting the two names to identify the same game. Steam page.
