Silver is used to craft the air tank and wiring kits in Subnautica 2. The important early distinction is between small nodes you can collect by hand and large deposits that require the Sonic Resonator. This is a source-based guide, not a route tested by this site.

An Early Route from the Lifepod

Sean Martin’s PC Gamer guide, published 14 May 2026, describes caves near the Old Habitat colony ruins, approximately 350 metres north of the Lifepod. NOA’s black-box objective also directs players toward that area.

For the closer cave described in that guide:

  1. Head north from the Lifepod, passing the Coral Dome on the pillar in the open area. Keep the adaptation tree to your right.
  2. Look for a ruined colony building ahead, slightly to the right.
  3. Before reaching the building, inspect the overhang on your right. Jelly Lei hanging from it mark a concealed cave entrance.
  4. Search inside for small silver nodes and collect those by hand. A large block requiring a tool is not the same resource interaction.
  5. Return with the materials your currently unlocked recipe requires rather than trying to clear the entire cave in one dive.

Steps 1–4 summarize the cited route. Step 5 is our planning advice: keep enough air to retrace your path, leave inventory space before departing, and turn back rather than extending a dive just to fill your inventory. We do not claim a guaranteed spawn count or a universally safe route.

What to Do with Large Deposits

PC Gamer identifies the mining tool as the Sonic Resonator, not “Sonar Resonator” as this page previously stated. Its guide notes a large deposit near Chap’s habitation while searching for his black box. If you cannot mine that deposit yet, look for the smaller collectable nodes instead; finding a large block does not mean all silver is locked behind the tool.

Crafting Priorities

The same source identifies the air tank and wiring kits as early uses, with electronics contributing to further base facilities and vehicle construction. Check the actual recipe in your build before gathering: this page does not establish an exact quantity for every upgrade or every subsequent patch.

Our suggested priority is the recipe currently limiting your next objective. An air upgrade can be a more useful first expenditure than stockpiling materials without a plan, but that is editorial advice rather than a mandatory progression rule.

Version and Verification Limits

The route above comes from a guide covering the May 2026 Early Access release. Its text was reviewed on 7 October 2026; we have not repeated it in a current build or verified changes to cave geometry, spawns or recipes. Use the landmarks and the in-game objectives together. An earlier attribution to GameSpot’s “Necrolei Fields” route has been removed because it was not supported by a linked source on this page.
