This is the August 2025 selection, not a current-month release calendar. The article began as a preview. This revision, checked against publisher store records on October 7, 2026, describes what those choices offered and corrects the release context. It is source-based recommendation analysis, not a hands-on ranking.
PC dates below are the dates displayed by Steam’s US store. They can differ from local console launch dates or dates in another time zone; they are not labeled universal release dates. Early Access is an unfinished release, not another name for the finished game.
The August selection

| Mafia: The Old Country | August 7 | A third-person crime story set in 1900s Sicily |
| CleanFall | August 8, Early Access | Mining, survival, turrets, and mobile defenses |
| Dinotica | August 12, Early Access | Creature companions, farming, and settlement building |

How to choose between them
If you want a directed story
Mafia: The Old Country puts Enzo Favara’s rise through a Sicilian crime family at the center. Choose it for setting and a third-person story, not because the Mafia name guarantees an unrestricted sandbox. Metal Gear Solid Δ instead makes stealth and survival in a jungle the attraction; it recreates an older game’s story rather than being a new chronological sequel.
Demon Slayer is the more specific fan choice. Interest in Tanjiro and the anime’s battles is a stronger reason to choose it than simply wanting any new action game. If the adaptation’s cast and story mean little to you, compare the fighting format before buying.
If you want to make systems work
The Lilliput Workshop is the cleanest non-combat option: your task is to design automated devices. It suits patient logic-puzzle players more than readers seeking a narrative campaign. CleanFall also rewards construction, but puts it under survival pressure: defenses and mobile machines serve a dangerous underground expedition. That is a meaningful distinction from a peaceful building game.
Dinotica combines creature companionship with farming, fighting, and making a home. Consider it if managing companions and a settlement is the appeal, not only collecting creatures. Its August 2025 date was an Early Access launch; the current store records August 12, 2026 as its full-release date. CleanFall remains labeled Early Access at this revision.
If you want action runs or a repeatable combat challenge
Abyssus is the group option, with the publisher listing one-to-four-player FPS play and roguelite structure. It is a better match for friends who want to coordinate shooting than for someone looking for a persistent role-playing world.
OVIS LOOP emphasizes a robot sheep, sci-fi weapons, and developing combinations of skills. Its side-view action differs from Abyssus’s first-person shooting. The store still labels it Early Access: choose the available loop rather than assuming every planned feature is finished.
SHINOBI: Art of Vengeance is a hand-drawn 2D action platformer by Lizardcube and SEGA. It is the relevant pick for players who want movement and ninja combat rather than a procedural building system. Dice Gambit, meanwhile, follows a customizable family of monster-hunting Inquisitors; inspect its tactical format if you prefer making decisions to responding at platforming speed.
Correction: Dying Light was not an August release
The original August selection included Dying Light: The Beast, but it does not belong in the table of actual August releases. Techland announced a move to September 19; the US Steam listing displays September 18, 2025. Those are separately identified records, not a claim that it released twice. Its parkour and survival-horror premise belongs with the September 2025 selection.
For a single starting choice, pick The Lilliput Workshop for logic, Mafia for a crime story, Abyssus for a shooting group, or SHINOBI for 2D action. These are play-style judgments, not tested quality scores.
